Die Material Selection Criteria for Aluminum Hot Stamping

The aim of this work is to develop a die material selection criterion for aluminum hot stamping applications. has been based on the back-to-back comparison set reciprocating friction and wear tests. Three representatives belonging different families have selected study: cold steel, cast iron. These tool materials combined with an exemplary member from two heat treatable families: 2XXX 6XXX. Each die-material/aluminum–alloy combination tested at three temperatures: 40, 200, 450 °C. temperatures according scenarios: long takt time press quenching, short very forming without respectively. results show that, among options available, steel turned out be most favorable option high volume production time, fitted best coupled iron outstand runs prototype dies quenching.
